What is Gitea?

Gitea is an open-source forge software package for hosting software development version control using Git as well as other collaborative features like bug tracking, wikis, and code review. It supports self-hosting but also provides a free public first-party instance hosted in China on DiDi's cloud.

What is the main role of Gitea?

Gitea supports SPNEGO single sign-on authentication (the scheme defined by RFC4559) for the web part of the server via the Security Support Provider Interface (SSPI) built-in Windows. SSPI works only in Windows environments - when both the server and the clients are running Windows.

Authenticating Through Gitea

One of the log in options for Restya core uses the Gitea OAuth2 flow to identify the end-user through their Gitea account.
When a client redeems a refresh token through Restya core, Restya core will re-query Gitea to update user information in the ID Token. To do this, Restya core stores a read-only Gitea access token in its backing datastore. Users that reject Restya core’s access through Gitea will also revoke all Restya core clients which authenticate them through Gitea.
